Cancer Care Review:

What you need to know

Each practice may do this differently but the discussion should be structured and include:

  • Needs assessment - Physical, practical, family, emotional, spiritual/religious
  • Information -   Work, benefits, support, prescription exemptions
  • Treatment - Cancer therapy, understanding, medication
  • Recurrence - Ongoing monitoring, symptoms of recurrence
  • Consequences of Treatment - Signs and symptoms of consequences of treatment (CoTs) and what to report
  • Actions - Get more info, resources, referral/signposting contact details and review.

Undertaking Cancer Care Reviews carries QOF points (Quality and Outcomes Framework) as it is one of two* cancer indicators encouraging the delivery of quality clinical care in GP practices.

* The other is maintaining a ‘register’ of patients with a cancer diagnosis.
